Beautiful seems such a shallow word to describe marriage.
Being married is like having superpowers except you are both the superhero and the sidekick at the same time. Your strengths help your partner and your partner’s strengths aid you.
The even crazier thing is your goodness doesn’t just multiply by 2 when you get married, it multiples continuously as you join in communion with friends and family in a sacred bond. Your goodness, your superpowers, are amplified. And not only are you making each other better through marriage, you’re making your community around you better, too.
This is most certainly the case with Ryan + Andrea.
I had the immense pleasure of flying out to Portland, Oregon for Andrea and Ryan’s wedding weekend. I met their friends and family and immersed myself in their city. Their wedding day is one for the books. I almost cried looking at onto the Columbia River Gorge as the sun set. Their guests gathered to watch the rare Northwest clear sky during the reception. Instead of dancing, they enjoyed personal pies, lawn games and tamales and I’m craving.
Andrea + Ryan were beautifully emotional throughout the day, truly grateful to be surrounded by the people who raised them, care for them and support them. Their lovable, large dog Josie preceded them walking down the aisle and Ryan had tears in his eyes watching Andrea. Andrea and her dad had such a tender moment dancing together and Ryan’s dad continually repeated how Andrea was making their family better. It was so touching. They raised a toast with their bridal party and close family directly after the ceremony in camping mugs with their custom wedding logo pictured on them (I got one too!!) Ryan gifted his groom’s people hand crafted ceramic mugs while Andrea and her ladies got dressed in a beautiful cabin on the property, with the soft dappled light entering through the windows above them.
There were bright flowers, green grass and tall trees. Golden light, tender moments and deep sighs. As I drove home and saw the almost full moon against the jet black sky over the Gorge, I had to repeat to myself “thank you, thank you, thank you” I am filled with warmth just thinking back to their day and I hope you enjoy it, too.
